The controversy surrounding plans to build a 'mosque' close to the Ground Zero site in New York (which isn't a mosque and isn't that near to Ground Zero, if you read the Guardian) has been further fuelled by Daisy Khan, the wife of Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf who is behind the proposed centre.
The Daily Telegraph reports that she has used the phrase '"metastasized anti-Semitism " to describe what she believes to be the current US attitude to Islam. She is quoted as saying "It's not even Islamophobia," she said "it's beyond Islamophobia - it's hate of Muslims. And we are deeply concerned."
Ms Khan has confirmed that the plans to build the mosque will go ahead despite the outcry. Her comments in relation to US attitudes to Muslims is in contrast to recent statements by her husband who has praised the religious freedoms he enjoys.
