Shafia Sofan of Tenby in Pembrokeshire had been found guilty of attempted murder by a jury at Swansea Crown Court following the incident at the home she shared with her husband, Mohammed Abdul Sofan, back in March this year.
Her attack was apparently 'without warning' and having inflicted head injuries with the knife Ms Sofan then tried to smash her way back into the house with an axe after her husband had pushed her out of the door in order to contact emergency services. Mr Sofan gave evidence that his wife has said she intended to kill him.
This case could seem like a very sad, local domestic story but for the last paragraph of the report which states: "The court heard he (Mr Sofan) had spent three months in Bangladesh without his wife prior to the attack on 11 March, 2010, and had contracted to marry another woman, although no marriage had taken place."
Suddenly I want to know a lot more about Mr and Mrs Sofan's marital history before I judge her on her state of mind....
