Young girls are drinking too much and then losing their virginity screams the front page of The Daily Mail on top scaremongering form today.
Under a front page headline "Legacy of the Ladette" it declares that the proportion of teenage girls who blame alcohol for losing their virginity has more than doubled compared with 60 years ago. (Back in the good old days, when women got married at 19 and cooked tea as they awaited the return of their husbands).
In concerned parenting/headteacher tone the paper comments: "The study, the most extensive of its kind, paints a disturbing picture of girls having casual, unprotected sex under the influence of alcohol which they often regret as soon as they sober up."
The pictures are hilarious too, one girl looks like she is having a great time and another two are clearly posed, showing nice, clean blonde haired girls feigning illness.
The study comes from researchers the University College London and no doubt was presented in more sober language. Currently on the UCL website is a professor talking about a sexual lifestyle survey that is going to take place - and this includes men as well as women.
