Underage girls are being abused by gangs of men who groom them for sex, reports The Daily Mail. One victim tells how she was befriended by a group of lads in a shopping centre in the north of England and then introduced to older men who bought her burgers and a mobile phone to win her trust before being plied with vodka and cannabis spliffs. Later she was repeatedly raped and then rented out by her pimp.
In Blackburn alone, 385 young girls have been offered protection after being sexually exploited by men in the past two years. Police believe these gangs make four times as much money through this sex trade than they would through drugs.
Some gangs which have been prosecuted are Asian, a fact which the Mail claims is being brushed over and hushed up through fears of racism. But figures given in the same article put this into context. "Across Lancashire, 201 men, a quarter of them Asian and the rest white, have been investigated for the sexual exploitation and the abduction of 370 children this year alone." So that means 75 per cent of defendants are white which seems to water down the Mail's hypothesis.
The fact remains these are predatory attackers who should be brought to justice regardless of race or background.
