News 24 reports that a group of Nigerian women in the country's oil rich South have blocked access to a Chevron natural gas pipeline.
The move is designed to highlight poor living conditions in their Ogburodo community in Delta state, conditions that the women argue Chevron has a responsibility to address.
As well as demanding access to electricity, they are also asking Chevron to deal with damage done to the environment according to community leader Thomas Ereyitomi. He also says: "It is immoral for Chevron not to provide basic amenities in a community in which they operate and generate money."
Thus far, Chevron have declined to comment on the activity.
Protests against oil and gas operations are apparently common in Nigeria, from within communities demanding jobs and fairer distribution of industry revenue.
