A builder was under police guard last night after his wife and her friend were found stabbed to death inside a burning house in Barnstaple, Devon, the Daily Mail reports.
Neil Langmead was pulled from the property by firemen on Sunday morning after it was apparently set alight to cover up the crime inside.
The 40-year-old, who had separated from wife Debbie, is also understood to have had stab wounds.
He is under guard in hospital after the bodies of Mrs Langmead and her friend Donna Thorpe were found. It is thought they had been stabbed in the kitchen of the house before it was set ablaze.
A double murder inquiry was underway last night but police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
