Washington DC has a 3% HIV/AIDS infection rate, far higher than in other parts of the country. Community groups in the city have been promoting the new and improved female condom, FC2, in an attempt to target this frightening statistic.
Sex educator Maxine Robinson says, "I think it's as effective or even more effective as the male condom... because the female condom covers a larger surface area of the vagina."
Besides covering a larger surface area the condom can also be inserted up to eight hours before intercourse giving women more control.
In addition to being handed out by community groups and sexual health clinics, Washington has become the first American city to have FC2 available for sale in the drug store chain CVS.
