The Auckland University Rugby Football club are under scrutiny and criticism after hiring topless women to parade around their pretest luncheon yesterday.
In an attempt to both raise money and carry out PR for the club, the topless women were painted in the club's colours and then raffled their underwear.
Despite representatives claiming it was 'light-hearted entertainment' and there were no 'downsides', it has raised concerns for the clinical manager of the Auckland Sexual Abuse Helpline who has commented, "The dangerous thing is it reinforces all those attitudes about rugby, alcohol and women and that they can have young women's bodies for pleasure because of who they are,"
The former club captain Murray Mexter has retorted, 'It was all tastefully done'.
So I guess that makes it alright then.
