Ten years ago there was just two female MPs in Swaziland now women make up 25 per cent of the 106 seats, but they are still battling to make their presence felt.
While women voters claim that nothing much has changed since the female MPs were elected and have become disenchanted, a lawyer Lomcebo Dlamini defends the politicians saying that the patriarchal system makes it very difficult for them to operate, reports allAfrica.com.
"The fact that we are using a system where men are the ultimate decision makers is making it difficult for women to make a difference," warned Dlamini adding that she believes female MPs are suffering from lack of confidence.
""Here we're dealing with issues of low self esteem, lack of confidence, lack of education and socialisation which are some of the things that lead to the marginalisation of women," she said.
