Japan Today has reported the story of Ari Fuji, who has become the first woman captain in Japan.
Despite issues with her height and having to go to America get her pilot’s licence, Fuji carried out her first commercial passenger flight this month.
She is the only female captain amongst 3,800 airline captains in Japan, but the story reveals ‘she does not feel she is handicapped on account of her gender. “I happened to be born a woman,” she said. “If people have faith and the strength of mind not to give up, anyone can do (like me).”
Not sure why they used the word ‘handicapped’ - since when is it a handicap to be a woman?
